Lake Mead is the largest man-made lake and reservoir in the United States, containing enough water to flood the entire state of New York with 1 ft. of water (26 million acre ft.). It is located on the Colorado River in Nevada and Arizona, about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The lake was created by the completion of Hoover Dam in 1935. Lake Mead National Recreation Area includes these waters as well as 1.5 million acres surrounding them. The recreation area provides a wide variety of unique outdoor recreation opportunities ranging from warm-water recreation to exploration of rugged and isolated back country.

Lake Mead is the western home of the Striped Bass, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Crappie and Channel Catfish. Fishing for stripers and largemouth bass is good throughout Lake Mead with crappie, blue gill, green sunfish, and catfish being more prevalent in the upper Overton Arm of the lake. The desert climate offers fishing throughout the year with winter Crappie fishing excellent during the winter months.
Temple Bar Marina's location provides almost year 'round perfect weather for enjoying outdoor activities from hiking to boating to wildlife viewing. The waters of Lake Mead are clear, and provide ideal conditions for watersports like waterskiing, tubing and touring via personal watercraft, boating, and fishing. Temple Bar Marina is located in the Temple Basin on the Arizona side of eastern Lake Mead. It's the closest marina for Arizonans who want to get away from the more populated Boulder Basin area of Lake Mead.
The area around Temple Bar Marina is especially well known for two things: the massive rock formation that gave the area its name and its 20 mile-long unobstructed water-ski runs that have every watersports enthusiast rushing to grab a rope and just go! You can play for hours with glassy waters and few people, just a couple miles from the marina docks.
